ABOUT US

The organization, Fondation Singsing, consists of 250 singers, divided into two choirs: Les Petits Chanteurs de Laval, a boys choir, composed of 125 singers, 8 to 18 years of age, founded in 1981, and Les Voix Boréales, a choir of a hundred and twenty five girls, aged 9 to 18, founded twelve years ago. The Artistic Director and Conductor since 2005 is Philippe Ostiguy.

Although they are two quite distinct choirs, Les Petits Chanteurs de Laval and Les Voix Boréales collaborate on a regular basis. They have often sung with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and been directed by such notable conductors as Eliahu Inbal, Kent Nagano and Michel Plasson, in prestigious locations like Carnegie Hall in New York, the Festival de Lanaudiere and Place des Arts in Montreal. They have performed many times with Céline Dion and taken part in many shows with renown local and international artists. They have sung with the stars of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris before 25,000 spectators at the Bell Centre in Montreal and taken part of the Montreal Jazz Festival. They recently interpreted the song Imagine (John Lennon) for Ms Yoko Ono, at the official opening of the exhibit “John and Yoko — Imagine Peace” at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts celebrating the 40th anniversary of the famous “Bed-in” held in Montreal.

Under Philippe Ostiguy’s direction they represented Canada at the Universal Exhibition in Aïchi, Japan. In April 2006, he took Les Voix Boréales on a tour that began in Spain and ended at the Opéra de Nice where the choir represented Laval, twin city to Nice, as part of the Canada Year in Nice. Since 2005, four Cds have been recorded under his direction: Pour la beauté du monde (2006); Adiemus — Songs of Sanctuary (2008) with Les Voix Boréales; Le meilleur des Petits Chanteurs de Laval (2007); and, with both choirs, NOËL! ( 2008). The two choirs go on tour every year, separately. In this way, they have many opportunities to accomplish they role of Official Ambassadors to the City of Laval. They have sung all over the province of Québec, in Acadia, in Europe (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, England, Austria), but also in Japan, Hong-Kong and China — with great success in each location. Les Voix Boréales will be touring Italy in April 2010 and Les Petits Chanteurs de Laval are leaving for San Francisco next May 2010 for a one-week musical tour. The choirs’ success is ensured by the talent and commitment of the singers and the energy of their director who is well known for his insistence on excellence, his professional rigour, his dynamism and his passion for sharing his love of music with the young people. Equally important is the dedication of volunteer parents which allows these young people to enjoy stimulating and enriching experiences together.
